L’oeuvre
Monumentale et d’une profonde sérénité, AWA se tient dans une présence qui invite au recueillement. Son corps élancé, aux lignes épurées, semble émerger hors du temps.
Sa forme organique se révèle progressivement au regard. Selon le point de vue, elle apparaît tantôt comme une figure solitaire, tantôt comme deux êtres enlacés, ou encore comme une mère portant son enfant. Cette ambiguïté invite le visiteur à ralentir, à tourner autour de l’œuvre et à découvrir qu’une même forme peut contenir plusieurs présences.
L’ouverture située dans sa partie inférieure évoque un passage : une invitation symbolique vers un autre espace, un autre état d’être, laissant à chacun la liberté d’y projeter sa propre lecture.
À propos de l'artiste
Née en Allemagne et établie entre Londres et le sud de la France depuis plus de vingt-cinq ans, Uta Tiggesmeier est une artiste dont le travail explore les relations entre l’être humain, le vivant et les récits par lesquels les cultures ont cherché à comprendre leur place dans le monde.
Lauréate du Heatherley Sculpture Prize puis du People’s Choice Award du British National Sculpture Prize, son travail a été présenté dans des institutions et expositions internationales et figure aujourd’hui dans des collections privées en Europe, en Asie et aux États-Unis.
À travers la sculpture, le dessin, l’estampe et l’installation, Uta Tiggesmeier crée des êtres hybrides, situés entre l’humain, l’animal, le végétal et le paysage. Ses figures semblent avoir émergé plutôt qu’avoir été conçues. Elles prennent la forme de présences anciennes et silencieuses, habitant l’espace avec une autorité naturelle.
Sa recherche puise dans l’archéologie, les mythologies anciennes, les traditions spirituelles de différentes cultures et les réflexions écologiques contemporaines. La matière occupe une place essentielle dans sa pratique. Terre, plâtre, verre, bronze, acier, résines minérales et objets trouvés sont choisis pour leur capacité à porter mémoire, présence et transformation. Chaque matériau participe à l’émergence d’un corps, d’un être ou d’un passage.
À une époque où le réel est souvent réduit à ce qui peut être mesuré, expliqué ou maîtrisé, son œuvre invite à une relation au vivant plus attentive, plus humble et plus sensible. Ses sculptures n’apportent pas de réponses figées : elles ouvrent un espace où le mystère, l’imaginaire et l’expérience incarnée retrouvent leur place dans notre manière d’habiter le monde.
L’histoire de l’oeuvre
Créée entre 2023 et 2024, AWA marque une étape importante dans la recherche artistique d’Uta Tiggesmeier autour des figures tutélaires et des formes archétypales.
Par son langage sculptural épuré et sa présence monumentale, l’œuvre dialogue aussi bien avec l’architecture contemporaine qu’avec des lieux patrimoniaux ou des paysages naturels.
Elle s’inscrit dans une série consacrée aux gardiens, ces présences silencieuses qui invitent à ralentir, à contempler et à renouer avec le vivant.
Dans plusieurs langues, awa évoque le souffle, l'énergie vitale ou la force qui anime le vivant. Cette résonance fait écho à l'intention de l'artiste : donner corps à une présence.
Pour la première fois présentée dans un lieu public, cette œuvre a été initialement conçue pour une collection privée. Elle est aujourd’hui disponible en édition. Réalisée ici dans une finition blanche, AWA peut également être éditée dans différentes patines et finitions — cuivre, fer ou bronze — offrant à chaque version une présence et une relation à l’espace singulière.

Le transport et l’installation ne sont pas inclus. Le coût sera établi en fonction de la destination.
L’installation est simple et requiert deux personnes. L’artiste peut accompagner l’installation sur site selon les besoins.
Commandes privées
L’artiste réalise également des sculptures sur commande pour des collections privées, des lieux d’accueil, des jardins, des espaces publics ou des projets architecturaux.
Chaque projet est développé en dialogue avec le lieu et les personnes qui l’habitent.

About AWA
Both monumental and deeply serene, AWA stands in a silent presence. Her elongated form, defined by clean and essential lines, seems to emerge from beyond time.
Her organic form gradually reveals itself to the eye. From one perspective it appears as a solitary standing figure; from another, two intertwined beings emerge, or the image of a mother carrying her child. This ambiguity invites the viewer to slow down, to move around the sculpture, and to discover how a single form can hold multiple expressions.
The opening in her lower section evokes a passage: a symbolic invitation towards another space, another state of being, while leaving each viewer free to project their own interpretation onto the work.
About the artist
Born in Germany and based between London and the South of France for over twenty-five years, Uta Tiggesmeier is an artist whose work gives form to the unseen connections between human beings, nature, myth and memory.
Working across sculpture, drawing, printmaking and installation, she creates hybrid figures that seem to belong to another time. Part human, part animal, part vegetal, her works emerge like ancient presences: quiet, watchful and deeply rooted in the living world. They often appear emerging rather then having been designed, as if drawn from the earth, from ritual, or from a collective memory older than language.
Tiggesmeier’s practice is informed by archaeology, ancient mythologies, spiritual traditions and ecological thought. Her use of material is central to this enquiry. Clay, plaster, glass, bronze, steel, mineral resins and found objects are chosen not only for their physical qualities, but for their ability to hold memory, transformation and symbolic charge.
At the heart of her work is a desire to restore mystery to our relationship with the world around us. In an age often dominated by control, explanation and measurement, Tiggesmeier’s figures invite another way of seeing: slower, more embodied, and more attuned to the intelligence of the living world.
She is the recipient of the Heatherley Sculpture Prize and the People’s Choice Award at the British National Sculpture Prize. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections across Europe, Asia and the United States.
The Story of the Work
Created between 2023 and 2024, AWA marks an important stage in Uta Tiggesmeier’s artistic research into tutelary figures and archetypal forms.
Through its refined sculptural language and monumental presence, the work enters into dialogue with contemporary architecture as much as with heritage sites and natural landscapes. It belongs to a series dedicated to guardians, those silent presences that invite us to slow down, contemplate, and reconnect with the living world.
AWA is a name chosen for its resonance. It evokes breath, life, and passage, the invisible force that connects beings, matter, and the world.
Presented in a public setting for the first time, this work was originally conceived for a private collection. It is now available as an edition.
Shown here in a white finish, AWA can also be produced in different patinas and finishes, including copper, iron, or bronze, giving each version its own distinct presence and relationship to space.
